Teach the series
Somebody taught you. Maybe not formally — maybe it was a hard year, a bad contract, a show that didn't sell. But you learned how to make a living from this, and most artists never do. They're still guessing. They're still undercharging. They're still waiting for permission. You could be the one who tells them the truth, in a room, in a single day. Not a stranger on the internet — someone from their own region who makes real work and figured it out. You keep 40% of every seat for doing it. Franchise owners who teach their own workshops keep 80%. But that isn't why you'll do it. That's not a side gig. That's the thing you'll be remembered for.
The certification pathway
-
1
Interest form
Tell us who you are, what you make, and where you would teach. This is the form at the bottom of this page.
-
2
Orientation
A conversation about the curriculum, what teaching a workshop actually involves, and what the program asks of you. If it is a fit on both sides, you cover the one-time certification fee here and move into training. It is paid once — there is nothing annual, and directly supports the Certified Trainer who prepares you.
-
3
Curriculum training
Work through instructor training for all twelve business areas. You pass each area before moving on.
-
4
Teaching demonstration
A twenty to thirty minute mock session, observed. You teach a piece of the curriculum the way you would teach it live.
-
5
Certification review
The certifying panel evaluates your training and your demonstration together.
-
6
Instructor agreement
Signed once you are approved. It covers what you teach, how you are paid, and how listings work.
-
7
Annual renewal
Continuing education and an evaluation each year to stay active.
After you certify: becoming a Certified Trainer
Once you have taught five workshops that ran successfully, you can put your name forward to become a Certified Trainer — the instructors who prepare the next round of candidates.
Candidates are assigned to a current Trainer in queue order. That Trainer coaches you through preparation and is paid for that work whether or not you are ultimately approved, because preparing someone well and deciding their outcome are two different jobs. The decision itself rests jointly with North Branch Art Trail and Moon Tree Farm.
We're not taking instructor applications yet
The certification program is real and the pathway is set — we're just finishing the paperwork behind it before we start accepting people into it.
Email info@artbizproject.com and we'll get in touch the moment applications reopen.
Bring it to your region
A franchise license lets your organization run the Art Biz Project Workshop Series under your own name, in your own territory, on your own schedule. You are a partner, not a storefront — the curriculum, the instructor certification, and the enrollment platform come with the license.
How the money works
You set your own seat price, at or above the $100 minimum that applies across the whole program. Every seat sold in a workshop you run splits four ways:
Teach it yourself and keep 80%
Most franchise owners are artists too. If that's you, get certified and teach your own workshops — you earn the 40% franchisee share and the 40% instructor share on the same seat. 80% of every ticket, in your own room, teaching your own community.
Your first instructor certification is included with your license. You'll be paired with a Certified Trainer in your region, who stays your organization's trainer for everyone you certify after that.
License tiers
Standard
Annual license
For established organizations with the staff and reach to run a full series.
Community Access
Reduced annual license
For smaller or underfunded counties. Requires a short justification statement with your application.
License fees are shared with applicant organizations. They are separate from seat revenue and are not deducted from the splits above. Venue costs come out of your share, which is why you control your own pricing.
We're not taking franchise applications yet
We're finalizing the legal and licensing side of the franchise program before we begin accepting applications from partner organizations.
